S o o o o o o o o o o o o Close!
The Capital Campaign feels like it is in the ninth inning of the “big” game, the score is tied, and our bases are loaded!
Fourteen months ago the Campaign Committee wrote you for the first time, requested donations to the Capital Campaign to restore our church. As of July 1, 2008, we have received 185 gifts and pledges, and we are within $8,500 of our goals of $250,000. Truly amazing!
The all-important new beams have been installed, the structure is secure, the roof is new, and the bell tower has been rebuilt. The bass weathervane has never look so good.
On Sunday, August 3rd at 5:30 we will celebrate with a potluck supper on the Historical Society Lawn. I hope you will all be able to come. No need to sign up—just bring a main dish, salad, or dessert to share, and drinks for your family. We will provide the paper goods.
Thank you all! Anything is possible on Cuttyhunk!
P.S. Our lemonade kids have done it again! They have collected more money from the sale of lemonade and donated it to “fix the roof!” Last year they provided us with a stellar example selling lemonade and bead necklaces. Will you follow their lead and make a pledge or give an amount to help fix the roof and allow the bell to ring for another 125 years? Thank you.

Dear Members and Friends,
Christmas greetings to you all! We hope your trees are bright, your fires warm, and your families near.
As we write to you today many of us are observing the first Sunday in Advent by lighting the candle of Hope. When we light it, we wonder what is coming. We are looking forward to something special even though we are not sure what it is or when it is going to happen.
The Cuttyhunk Union Methodist Church lit a candle of hope last May as we launched a capital campaign to raise $250,000 to restore and improve our church building. Today, we bring you news of great joy! Thanks to your 150 thoughtful, generous gifts and pledges we are within $26,000 of reaching this goal. What an unbelievable blessing! Rev. Quinn G. Caldwell is right! “We are people learning to expect the unexpected!”
As we light the remaining Advent candles of Peace, Joy, and Love we hope that you will consider joining us by giving for the first time or increasing your gift/pledge to a place of great love—The Cuttyhunk Union Methodist Church.
The leaders of the Church held numerous meetings to gather information and brainstorm solutions. Funds were requested and $6,000 was received from the Gosnold Community Fund (a member of the Community Foundation of Southeastern Massachusetts) to take immediate steps to temporarily secure the bell tower. Additional fund sources were sought from Historic Preservation grants and the Trustees of the United Methodist Church of New England. The availability of other grants and loans will depend on the momentum of our current fundraising. The immediacy of some of our repairs will require us to secure a loan from the United Methodist Foundation.
Now, we need your help! What started as a campaign to celebrate our 125th Anniversary by improving access, the pastor's study/meeting space, lighting and air circulation, has become a campaign to preserve our building and to finish remaining work on the Ward Parsonage. Our goal is $250,000.
Merry Christmas everyone and Happy New Year!
